Buying flowers for friends, family and my man, at Los Peñotes (where else?)
Every year, I'm surprised by how fast Sant Jordi comes around. Living in Madrid, there is no real expectation of the particular Catalan Valentine's Day, but for me, it's always a special occasion, given its focus on books. Also, as it's already warm, sunny and spring-y here in Madrid, it's a lovely day to spend walking around, looking at books!

Maybe I'll keep them for myself?
Following the tradition, I bought roses for my friends, and, rather than giving out books (nowadays, with e-books, it's less personal), I'm giving some recommendations on some of the books I've read recently, as well as some of my favorite books!
- The Poisonwood Bible, by Barbara Kingsolver, about an American family living in Congo during the time of the independence form Belgium. Such a beautiful book, it's been a long-time favorite. I couldn't put it down!
- The Handmaid's Tale, by Margaret Atwood. This book from 1985 is gaining popularity again now due to the feminist movement that's arising. I read it in a day, it was engrossing. Seriously recommend it if you're interested in feminism and the role of women in society!
- Back to Moscow, by Guillermo Erades. Another book I read in a day. I'm so proud to read such a fantastic Spanish writer. This book made me want to move to Moscow and read all the Russian classics! A true work of art, in my mind, with a beautiful and heartbreaking ending.
- Fates and Furies, by Lauren Groff. Saying this book is about a marriage would be like saying Anna Karenina (keeping the Russian theme here) is about infidelity. Lauren Groff explores both sides of a marriage to an extent that you end up deeply invested in the wellbeing of their relationship. Truly a must read!
- Todo Esto Te Daré, by Dolores Redondo. The second Spanish writer in this list. Although not on my list of all-time-favorites, I really liked this book, with I read during Easter holiday. I'd recommended for a light read and if you want to fall in love with Galicia's wineries.

Nothing makes me happier than this necklace!
As for the outfit:
- The trousers are from Zara. They were normal black pants, and I cut the bottoms to make them frayed. I love the way they fit, as they are a straight leg, but they seem to have a problem with the zipper, so keep that in mind!
- The t-shirt is a basic one from Asos. For a long while, I only bought American Vintage basic t-shirts, as they seemed to be the best in the market. However, at 45€ per t-shirt, I was devastated every time I found a hole in one of them (given how much I use them, this is quite common). I have recently discovered Asos' basic t-shirts, and I am obsessed! 100% recommended!
- The blazer is an old one from Zara (similar alternatives here, here and here). I love the way it fits, as it sort of doubles up as a normal jacket. However, the material is quite thick, so I'll be packing it up in a short while.
- The flats are Chanel. I lusted after these flats for so long, and finally got them as a birthday present about three years ago. I am absolutely, 100% in love with them. They are honestly the most comfortable shoe in the world, and they go with everything. Being a classic, they are always on-trend, so I definitely recommend them if you want to make an investment in a comfortable yet fashionable shoe.
- The bag is my Chanel 2.55 bag, which I love. My only problem with this bag is the chain. When the bag is a bit heavy, the chain strap digs into your shoulder. Not a nice feeling. However, a classic!
- The necklaces are Zara (the short one, comes in a pack of three) and the long one I bought in Santorini, and I love it!. To be honest, I wasn't convinced with the Zara one, so I ended up taking it off.
Hope you enjoyed this first post on my blog! Have a great week!
