My monthly purchases: April 2017

This Easter in Athens, which is in my top 10 of favorite cities!
So this moth has been full of lovely lovely purchases. I love that time of year when you can literally buy everything out there: jackets for when it gets chillier at night (check out my green jacket below) and bikinis for relaxing on the hot weekends we're getting here in Madrid.

So here is a list of everything I've bought this month!

  • Jeans from Rag & Bone. I've been looking for flattering jeans for suuuuch a long time now, and I finally found this pair yesterday! They're skinny and fit so well! I also tried this pair on, but on a lighter color, which I loved. They're likely to be my next purchase! But seriously, if you're looking for a good pair of jeans, check out Rag & Bone. They're all so flattering: there wasn't a pair I tried and didn't love, which doesn't usually happen to me. It's going to become my one-stop shop for jeans!
  • This pijama-y pants from Monochrome. It's a Greek brand (I bought them in Athens), with really good quality basics, and also at really good prices. For other cute Greek grands, check out Milk & Honey (the loveliest dresses ever, very similar to those by Realisation Par). I was surprised at how many amazing Greek designers there are, and there is hardly any publicity on them!
Anyway, I'm wearing these pants on the first picture on the post. They can be confused for pj pants, so make sure to team them up with a more structured jacket and fancier shoes.
  • My new t-shirt from Adidas! Although athleisure is a trend I have just started appreciating, this t-shirt stole my heart (I'm hardly dramatic at all). It's an amazing red brick color and it fits like a dream. They have them in different colors, but I wanted to go all out, and don't own much of this color in my wardrobe, so it was a no-brainer for me!
  • Shirt from Whistles, which I cannot find on their website anymore!. This is also a shirt I got yesterday. I think the Whistles stand at El Corte Inglés is quite recent in Madrid. At least I hadn't seen it before yesterday. I saw this shirt on sale and could not resist. So now I have two red items in my wardrobe! (Actually, I have three, I got these awesome pants a few months ago). I can't wait to wear it!
  • Beauty-wise, I'm also going Greek. I bought a new shampoo and conditioner from Apivita, which are natural cosmetics. I've been trying to jump into the natural band-wagon for a while now, beauty-wise, so this was a good first step. I'll let you know how it goes!
I also got the Korres Wild Rose Exfoliating Cleanser, which smells so good and so far is working great!

  • This jacket from Zara, which for some reason I cannot find on their website. For a while, I was looking for a good khaki jacket that I could wear more relaxed or more formal, and this one ticks all the boxes. It's a very light material, and has beautiful detailing, which make it appropriate for all occasions.
  • Two bikinis from I'm not sure what brand to be honest. They're sold by a friend of a friend of my mum's, who came over one day and showed them to me. I love the quality, shape and colors of the bikinis, and I can't wait to wear them. As soon as I know where you can get them, I'll let you know!
  • Finally, these lovely Vans. I was looking to buy white trainers, but there was something that kept holding me back (maybe they're overexposed already?). When I came across these Vans I knew I had found what I wanted. They look like normal Vans from above, but have an espadrille sole, which sets them apart. Also, they're the most comfortable shoe I've worn in my life, and won't take them off! Definitely a win.

Basically, my key learning from this month of shopping has been to say yes to (a lot of) color, and to, when possible, go Greek!

Happy Sant Jordi!

Buying flowers for friends, family and my man, at Los Peñotes (where else?)
Every year, I'm surprised by how fast Sant Jordi comes around. Living in Madrid, there is no real expectation of the particular Catalan Valentine's Day, but for me, it's always a special occasion, given its focus on books. Also, as it's already warm, sunny and spring-y here in Madrid, it's a lovely day to spend walking around, looking at books!

Walking around the Retiro on such a sunny day

Maybe I'll keep them for myself?
Following the tradition, I bought roses for my friends, and, rather than giving out books (nowadays, with e-books, it's less personal), I'm giving some recommendations on some of the books I've read recently, as well as some of my favorite books!

  1. The Poisonwood Bible, by Barbara Kingsolver, about an American family living in Congo during the time of the independence form Belgium. Such a beautiful book, it's been a long-time favorite. I couldn't put it down!
  2. The Handmaid's Tale, by Margaret Atwood. This book from 1985 is gaining popularity again now due to the feminist movement that's arising. I read it in a day, it was engrossing. Seriously recommend it if you're interested in feminism and the role of women in society!
  3. Back to Moscow, by Guillermo Erades. Another book I read in a day. I'm so proud to read such a fantastic Spanish writer. This book made me want to move to Moscow and read all the Russian classics! A true work of art, in my mind, with a beautiful and heartbreaking ending.
  4. Fates and Furies, by Lauren Groff. Saying this book is about a marriage would be like saying Anna Karenina (keeping the Russian theme here) is about infidelity. Lauren Groff explores both sides of a marriage to an extent that you end up deeply invested in the wellbeing of their relationship. Truly a must read!
  5. Todo Esto Te Daré, by Dolores Redondo. The second Spanish writer in this list. Although not on my list of all-time-favorites, I really liked this book, with I read during Easter holiday. I'd recommended for a light read and if you want to fall in love with Galicia's wineries.

Nothing makes me happier than this necklace!

As for the outfit:
  • The trousers are from Zara. They were normal black pants, and I cut the bottoms to make them frayed. I love the way they fit, as they are a straight leg, but they seem to have a problem with the zipper, so keep that in mind!
  • The t-shirt is a basic one from Asos. For a long while, I only bought American Vintage basic t-shirts, as they seemed to be the best in the market. However, at 45€ per t-shirt, I was devastated every time I found a hole in one of them (given how much I use them, this is quite common). I have recently discovered Asos' basic t-shirts, and I am obsessed! 100% recommended!
  • The blazer is an old one from Zara (similar alternatives here, here and here). I love the way it fits, as it sort of doubles up as a normal jacket. However, the material is quite thick, so I'll be packing it up in a short while.
  • The flats are Chanel. I lusted after these flats for so long, and finally got them as a birthday present about three years ago. I am absolutely, 100% in love with them. They are honestly the most comfortable shoe in the world, and they go with everything. Being a classic, they are always on-trend, so I definitely recommend them if you want to make an investment in a comfortable yet fashionable shoe.
  • The bag is my Chanel 2.55 bag, which I love. My only problem with this bag is the chain. When the bag is a bit heavy, the chain strap digs into your shoulder. Not a nice feeling. However, a classic!
  • The necklaces are Zara (the short one, comes in a pack of three) and the long one I bought in Santorini, and I love it!. To be honest, I wasn't convinced with the Zara one, so I ended up taking it off.
Hope you enjoyed this first post on my blog! Have a great week!
